TO KNOW. TO SERVE. TO LOVE.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

 

A priest once told me that the greatest desires of the human heart are “to love” and “to be loved”. At UW Madison, there are many groups that students join on a quest to love and to be loved. University cultures promise love from romantic relationships, from worldly success, from parties, etc. So often, we feel unfulfilled by what the world has to offer us. By turning to a Faith-filled community, we begin to see fulfilment in the purpose for which we were created. Badger Catholic’s mission is “to know, to love, and to serve”. What a beautiful statement of purpose! 

 

As a registered student organization with a GSSF grant, UW Madison trusts us to provide experience with the Catholic faith and instruction about our practices. If we want “to know” God, we should first seek out the truth, unafraid to ask questions. Our programming builds in many events to learn about the faith, such as Fides et Ratio which hosts regular logical & philosophical arguments for the Faith. Secondly, if we want “to love”, we have to put aside our differences and seek virtuous communities that lead us to Heaven. In this community, we love by calling each other to greatness and holiness. Badger Catholic’s regular community events and peer mentoring sessions provide this friendship all over campus! Most importantly, we love through service. We are made “to serve” those around us as brothers and sisters in Christ. Madison is a great community that I have been privileged to serve and to be served during my time at UW Madison. 

 

God’s love is reaching out to each student here at UW Madison, and we make it our mission to not only grow in that love but also share that love. To all those curious about Catholicism, we would absolutely love to see you at an event! To all those already involved in a “Catholic circle”, this is the organization to bring the rest of campus the love that you feel.
